The ecology of Western Togoland is beneficial for us all and must be protected under an agreement that brings Ghana and Western Togoland together. The so called Oti Region falls within a major biodiversity hotspot of the world which must be seriously protected and beneficially utilised.
The Oti Region was intentionally created because of Ghana’s rapacious appetite for Western Togoland mineral resources. They were able to fool the people that their area would develop when a new region was created for them. Now that the falsity of the campaign promise has come to light, the government is coming again with another strategy fool some Traditional Rulers to accept anything and sell out the future of their people, including their thrones and shrines.
The promise to create jobs for them is not different from making them slaves to the whom plunderers they decorate as ‘INVESTORS’.
But let the people know very well that all the waters in Western Togoland flow into the Volta River or directly into the sea. Therefore any degradation activity in the area will have a serious effect on the aquatic life of Ghana. The rulers of Ghana should have known better that Ghana depends on the Volta River for electricity, domestic and industrial water supply as well as irrigation and fishing. The Government of Ghana should have been thinking of partnering with Western Togoland to protect it than hasting to plunder the resources of Western Togoland.
Those who chose to brand us criminal because of our suggestions should rather be recognised as criminals because they want to consolidate the crime committed against Western Togoland even before Ghana’s Independence. The repercussions are naturally crushing Ghana now without any reaction from Western Togolanders. But let us open our minds and hearts for the new wave of reality to take control.
